Lake Shinji in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, was freezing cold and stormy with strong winds. Many small fishing boats were rocking and swaying as they worked. They were fishing for shijimi-clams, a specialty of Lake Shinji, using a tool called a joren, weighing up to max 30 kilograms. Operating the boat and the tool at the same time is an incredibly difficult feat. The food we enjoy and adore is made possible by such efforts.
I can’t keep up with the gourmet food that people are talking about. I can’t help but feel that people are forgetting to seriously consider and be grateful for who is catching and growing and making the food we eat. If we don’t do that first, our eating habits will become unhealthy.
I gave a deep bow to the fishing boats far away.

島根県松江市の宍道湖は凍えるような寒さと強風で荒れていました。その中、小さな漁船がたくさん揺れながら漁をしていました。ジョレンという最大30キログラム以上の道具を使う宍道湖特産のシジミ漁です。船と同時にこれを操るのは至難の業です。私たちが
「おいしい」「おいしい」
と食べているものはこのような努力に支えられています。
私は世の中で言われるグルメや美食についていけません。自分の食べている物を誰が採っているか作っているか真剣に考えたり感謝をすることが忘れられているように思えてなりません。まずそれをしないと狂った食生活になります。
私は遥か遠くの漁船に最敬礼をさせていただきました。
